Miguel Afonso

Founder, Urban Farm Guru, INC.

Growing up in the Kalahari desert, Miguel Afonso forged a deep appreciation for plants, animals and  for the sacredness of water. After obtaining a social science degree at the University of Cape Town in South Africa, Miguel’s wanderlust got the better of him. During his travels Miguel became keenly interested in all things green and sustainable. It was upon landing and settling in South Florida that he began to turn his attentions to gardening. Keenly aware of the the impending problems we could face in the future, he has dedicated himself to teaching permaculture design, aquaponics and all things urban farming. As a certified Permaculture Designer, Miguel is intent upon weaving life and biological security into the urban landscape one project at a time. Miguel is also currently serving as a board member at the non-profit community garden, The Fruitful Field.
